What is NRDC?

The Natural Resources Defense Council, known as NRDC, is the most effective environmental action organization in the United States. Established in 1970, NRDC uses law, science and the support of 1.2 million members and online activists to protect the planet and ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.

NRDC's more than 380 lawyers, scientists and policy experts work out of offices in New York, Washington, Beijing, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

NRDC in China

Over the past 15 years, NRDC's team of senior legal, technical, economic and policy experts has been working with local partners in China to address some of the world's greatest environmental challenges and to help craft innovative solutions that create a cleaner, healthier environment and curb global warming. Our work in China builds on our 40 years of expertise and proven environmental leadership in the United States and elsewhere in the areas of energy, climate, health, market transformation and environmental law.

NRDC was the first international environmental organization to establish clean energy and green building programs in China. In partnership with the key players in China's government, academia, energy companies, factories, nongovernmental organizations and legal community, NRDC works on the ground and in the trenches on concrete provincial and municipal projects and helps promote cutting-edge energy and environmental solutions for China. We also help the Chinese government develop, implement and enforce strong environmental and energy laws, regulations, policies and incentives.

NRDC also partners with the private sector, including multinational corporations, to help promote supply chain practices that contribute significantly to solving China's environmental problems and mitigating the environmental footprint of consumers in the rest of the world.

All of our efforts are aimed at helping China reduce its emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants in a cost-effective manner while continuing its strong economic growth.
